. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .The perfect gift for Helvetica-philes is the Stendig Calendar designed in 1966 by Massimo Vignelli (born 1931 in Milan, Italy). It became part of the Design Collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City the very same year. Clean, minimalist design super-sized at 3′ x 5′ (92 cms x 122 cms) gives it enduring appeal and great functionality. This calendar is European styled (Monday is the first day of the week) and available through a handful of online/offline retailers and now fortunately direct from the publisher Cromwell Company in Nashville, Tennessee as well. Of note, I understand that only a few are printed each year and they can sell out before hitting the shops.
“The Stendig wall calendar consists of twelve sheets printed in black ink on white sixty pound weight offset paper stock. In random order, the calendar sheets for some months are reverse printed producing a black background with white letters and numerals with other months printed in black on white background. The sheets are perforated along a line just under the binding strip to allow them to be torn away neatly… The binding strip of the calendar has three matte black finish metal eyelets to facilitate easy hanging.”

Robin (aka Full Beard) reports he is having a hard time finding the Stendig in London. If anyone knows of any retailers there pretty please let us know. I did come across an online shop selling it in Ireland last year, Design Heaven. However, the 2010 calendar is not currently listed on their site. It certainly bears an inquiry if you are located in the UK. Hansenogjensen in Denmark offers the Stendig online and they do ship internationally.
Psst… recycle this beauty into fantastic giftwrap or as a lampshade. Check it out here and here.
